To request accessible parking or seating at Commencement, please see the Accessibility Resources & Services Commencement page.
If you or the guest(s) in your party can walk approximately one (1) block (no hills) and can climb approximately 10-12 short stadium steps, we encourage you park in the Park and Ride lots.
The Friday Center (Highway 54 East) or University Mall (15-501 Bypass) is available and parking permits are not required.
Shuttles (free) will transport you and your party to Gate 2 at Kenan Stadium.
Or use on campus parking lots.
Dean Smith Center, Bowles Lot, Cardinal, Dogwood, and Jackson Parking Decks are served by shuttles (free) transporting you and your party to Gate 6.
A section of the stadium on the north and south side has been “reserved” to limit the number of stairs encountered by persons with limited mobility. If you contact Accessibility Resources & Service, we will provide seating passes (8 guest maximum) so that your party may sit together. There is very limited accessible seating for guests using wheelchairs at the stadium seating level (Concourse).
Ground Seating – (Seating Passes Required)
Guests using aids or appliances (wheelchairs, walkers, etc.) and unable to access steps in the stadium, will be provided seating in the stadium at ground level. Although space is limited, only the guest requiring assistance and up to 1-2 additional guests will be permitted to sit on the field. The rest of your party will be asked to sit in the stands. Please note that seating on the field does not provide any protection from weather. Guests are encouraged to bring hats, parasols and bottled water as this area is often in direct sunlight.
Parking – (Permit Required)
Parking for guests requiring ground seating will be provided in the Rams Center Parking Deck (Level 2). Only one (1) vehicle per family.
Although we acknowledge many guests will have state issued handicapped parking permits, access to the Rams Center Parking Deck will require a special parking permit issued by Accessibility Resources & Service for the Commencement Ceremonies at Kenan Stadium.
Seating and parking permits will be mailed beginning the last week in April. No permits will be mailed after Friday May 2, 2014, however they can be picked up at the office of Accessibility Resources & Service up until 5:00 p.m. on Friday May 9, 2014.
The offices will not be open during Commencement Weekend.
Departmental/Individual School Ceremonies
For information about individual departmental or professional school ceremonies, check the Commencement Information website for information regarding on building location, available parking and building access, or please contact the school or department of your graduate.
Neither Accessibility Resources & Service nor the University maintains a supply of wheelchairs for commencement ceremonies. We suggest that guests check local Rental Stores about renting a wheelchair for the weekend. Not only will it provide access to the Commencement Ceremony at Kenan Stadium but will increase access to other parts of campus for individual ceremonies or receptions. Wheelchairs will fold and fit comfortably in the trunk of most vehicles.
Deaf/Hard of Hearing Guests
The Commencement Ceremonies will be open captioned on video screens in Kenan Stadium.
