Do I need tickets?
Tickets are not needed for the main university ceremony in Kenan Stadium. The ceremony will be held outside in Kenan Stadium, rain or shine. You may bring as many family members and friends as you like. Dress appropriately for the weather.

What time do graduates need to be there?
Graduates need to arrive at the stadium no later than 9 am to line up. Undergraduates will line up at Gates 3 and 5. Doctoral, Masters and professional degree candidates will line up at the main entrance to Kenan Football Center located between Gates 3 and 5.

Families and other guests should enter Kenan Stadium through Gates 1 and 2 on the north side OR Gates 6 on the south side for seating for the ceremony. Gates will open at 8:00 a.m.

How long does the ceremony usually last?
About an hour and a half, from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

Is there handicapped parking?
Yes. Contact Accessibility Services with requests for handicapped parking or seating. Office of Accessibility Services, SASB – Suite 2126, call 962-0754, email the office at or visit their website.

Will they call out my name?
The names of the graduates are not announced. All candidates will be recognized by the dean of their respective school. Candidates for the doctoral degree will be individually recognized at the Doctoral Hooding ceremony on Saturday, May 10.

Where do I get my diploma?
Your diploma will be mailed to you during the summer. See the section on diplomas for more details.

Is there housing on campus for Commencement?
No, housing is not available on campus for parents and guests. A list of hotels in the area is available on the Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau and the Durham Convention & Visitors Bureau Web sites.

Will there be options for eating on campus?
Alpine Bagel will be open in the Student Union from 9am until 5pm on Saturday, May 10th and 8am until 4pm on Sunday, May 11th. Additionally, Starbucks located in Rams Head Dining Facility, next to Kenan Football Stadium, will be open from 8am to 2pm on Sunday, May 11th.
