Update on celebrating the Class of 2020

We will continue to seek your class leaders’ input and guidance about the events and activities that will be most meaningful to you. We will have more details for you later in the spring as we work with our public health experts throughout the planning process.

Dear Members of the Class of 2020,

As we are planning for the Class of 2021’s Commencement, I wanted to update you on celebrating your Commencement as well. Despite all the challenges of this past year, it is still our hope to bring you together as a class and celebrate your accomplishments. We have not forgotten you, and we want to ensure that we recognize your achievements here in Chapel Hill.

While we originally thought that we would plan a traditional Commencement ceremony, we recognize that much time has passed since May, and we have since talked about other possibilities with your class leaders. On their recommendation, we are looking to plan a reunion event over the weekend of October 9-10 in lieu of a traditional ceremony at Kenan Stadium. This will be an opportunity for you to reunite with faculty and classmates and partake in some of the traditions that you missed out on in the final weeks of the 2020 spring semester.

We will continue to seek your class leaders’ input and guidance about the events and activities that will be most meaningful to you. We will have more details for you later in the spring as we work with our public health experts throughout the planning process.

Thank you, and we will continue to be in touch.

Sincerely,

Kevin M. Guskiewicz
